Stars complete

Christmas fabric covered stars

Inspired by the lovely paper folded stars I saw last year on Pinterest, which I did have a go at making with great success, I wanted to re-create them out of fabric to be more robust and have longevity for Christmases to come.

I loved these paper stars I made last year with my Dovecraft papers – I made some large and small and added a piece of ribbon to each to hang on my tree. I also nestled some among my garland on my window sill. I had some great comments too.

Whilst the paper ones are lovely, and as long as I keep them stored carefully there’s no reason they won’t last, but I wondered if I made them out of card and then added a fabric to them would they be more robust? The answer is yes, most definitely. Plus they look really striking in this lovely fabric.

These are sized at 20cm; I wouldn’t go much smaller because it gets a bit harder to fold the card. I’m probably not going to hang them on the tree but from the top handles on my windows, as well as putting a few together around the house. This was the first time I had made these and I am planning to make some more. With my hands still not back to normal, even after being out of neurological rehab for nearly a year, crafts do take me a lot longer than most people. I managed the first one in about an hour which I don’t think is bad at all. After all, I plan on keeping and using them for years to come.

How to make your own

You will need:

  • 2 square piece of card, any size – I made mine from sheets of A4 card
  • 2 pieces of Christmas fabric cut to the same size as the card
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Ribbon if you want to create a hanger

Here’s what you need to do:

Fabric Stars Tutorial

Once you have completed your star you can add a strip of ribbon by hot gluing it to the back or in the middle between the two sides. And there you have it, a beautiful fabric covered star that will last for years to come.

Are you thinking of giving this a go? How did yours turn out? Let me know in the comments section below.

Happy crafting xxx
